Each employs proprietary microorganisms and fermentation processes to feed and convert carbohydrates (e.g., sugar) and gas (e.g., CO2, hydrogen and CO) into nearly any desired biochemical. What’s more, with the right combination of sugar and gas, Zero-CO2-Fermentation™ can be achieved, characterized by no CO2 emissions from the fermentation, which promises rich environmental advantages.
MixoFerm and FlexFeedstock can achieve sugar-to-protein, chemical and fuel mass yields that are 50–100% higher than the theoretical maximums of conventional microorganisms and fermentation processes. Moreover, they allow flexibility in the type and ratio of feedstocks employed, which leverages the advantages of each to mitigate the other’s challenges.
WDL customers will benefit in these ways: 1) lower feedstock cost, which is commonly the largest operating cost consideration whether it is protein, fuel or chemical production; 2) improved life-cycle- analysis by maximizing the mass conversion of biobased feedstocks; and 3) easier compliance with current and future regulations on carbon intensity of products.
